The Anxiety of the Times

First of all, everyone deserves to always be in charge of their own mental and emotional well-being. However, for some during this time, it might be a wake up call to anxieties and negative emotions never felt before, stifled down, or ignored for lack of understanding how to handle them. And that’s ok too. Give yourself the compassionate and patience to figure out what you need.

My heart goes out to those who are struggling. And as someone who suffered with OCD, my heart is with all the people whose OCD is triggered 10fold right now. If you were already dealing with germ and contamination OCD, I cannot even fathom how this time has effected you. I want you to know I am here. I get it. I can be an ear, I can help, I see you.

I see everyone, and I want everyone to know it’s ok to feel anxious, confused, alone, scared, hopeless, unmotivated, and any other emotion you have experienced. IT IS OK. One thing I want to assure you is that these are normal feelings, you are not alone, and it is an opportunity to grow. Yes, I know it doesnt feel that way but I promise you it is. Try your best to lean into these feelings instead of fighting them because fighting them makes them stronger! Use this time to really learn about yourself, learn about what calms you, what inspires you, what motivates you, what grounds you, what you need in life to feel more yourself, what you don’t need and what is a time suck. Do things that are new and that serve you! Journal, take a walk, stretch, meditate, listen to podcasts, facetime a friend or family member, do a workout…there are so many things you CAN do to help these feelings you are experiencing. And if you don’t know what to do or what will “work” then try! There is nothing wrong with trying and saying “nope, didnt do it. maybe something else.” Acknowledge how you feel and take control over it instead of it taking control over you.

Yes I know easier said than done right!? Especially when your heart is racing, you can’t see straight, your world feels upside down, and you don’t want to do anything. I get it. I promise! But the only thing you need to think about is the next thing. The next action. What is your body telling you RIGHT NOW? Yes you have a meeting in 30 minutes, ok cool but what about NOW? Do you need to get up and stretch, do you need to walk, do you need to sing, do you need to dance? Listen to the inner you for that is the only person you need to serve right now!!
